It's A Party!
The Iowa Writers’ Collaborative holiday party is 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, at the Harkin Institute (on the Drake University campus in Des Moines).
You’re warmly invited to attend if you’re a paid subscriber to Reporting from Quiltropolis or to any of the columns penned by my Iowa Writer’s Collaborative (IWC) colleagues.

The event will be a great way to meet and mingle with some of our outstanding columnists as well as readers like yourself. You can bring along a sidekick if you wish—non-subscribers can attend for $35.
I’m bummed I can’t be there, but don’t let that stop you!
The food will be great, and the award-winning Weary Ramblers will be performing.
RSVP here immediately. (The deadline has been extended!)
While we are thinking about parties, holidays, and gifts, here’s a great idea—tell your family what you want for Christmas is a ticket to next year’s Okoboji Writers’ and Songwriters’ Retreat. If you don’t think that will work, give it to yourself. Tangible gifts can break, disappoint, or be forgotten. An experience like Okoboji, where you hang out for days with creative people stays with you forever. Dates are September 27-30, 2026.
From now until December 15, every registration includes a 10-month online class series, beginning January 14. Each month, one of the retreat’s workshop leaders will teach the same 90-minute session they offer in Okoboji. It’s the first time this has ever been offered and a wonderful way to keep your creative momentum all year long. I’ve already signed up!

P.S. I write Reporting from Quiltropolis under the auspices of the Iowa Writers’ Collaborative, among the writers: Nicole Baart, Dave Busiek, Christie Vilsack, and Jason Walsmith. Please check them all out and subscribe, perhaps as a paid subscriber, to those you like.
