I was well past twenty-seven years old when I heard about the Golden Birthday—the idea that one’s most special birthday is the birthday on which your numerical age matches that day of the month.
Scrabble—Happy Birthday. This is Dudley. My she human is your she human’s friend Julie. I like your pictures. You are very beautiful. Do you like play dates? I do. I like to run and run. I am a mini golden doodle. People say I’m cute. So are you! Sincerely, Dudley.
Hi Dudley—this is Scrabble. Thank you for your overture, but I am not a fan of dogs (I know!). I've been attacked and bitten (twice), and when I was a young dog, I just didn't live near other dogs my size to play with. Also, in that sketchy "dog years" thing, I'm now about ninety. You are, what, less than a teenager? One thing we definitely have in common is our photogenicality. We are both SO CUTE.
Haha, rereading my own words, I realized Scrabble's actual Golden Birthday was a year ago, when she turned fourteen, so I guess today is her Golden + One special day.
You’re fortunate to have such a sweet companion for so long. But please, when Scrapple rides in the car with you, tether her in some way or put her in a crate. It’s not safe for her to be completely loose in the cabin of the car. If you’re in an accident, or even just have to brake very suddenly, she can become a projectile and hit you and herself very seriously. Also, in case of a serious accident, she will likely be thrown or escape from the car. Outside she can be badly hurt, or will run away out of fear.
Dogs very often escape from accidents and when they do, it’s so difficult to find them again. They’re in strange territory, terrified because of what just happened, and will hide from anybody but their own people (who are often hurt or have gone back home) so efforts by kind strangers, friends, or even family members to find them can be fruitless.
I have worked with rescue dogs for many years so I speak from experience, and I could tell from the video of Scrapple enjoying the car ride that she wasn’t tethered.

Happy Birthday to Scrabble. I bet that name gets triple points on the game board. :)
Arf! Arf!

Love this! Reminds me of the lemon almond Birthday Cake I celebrate with every year.

Awww... My mom LOVED Scrabble! Particularly beating me at it! She would have loved this!
Happy birthday, Scrabble! From Dudley's other human.
Sorry, Scrabble, I misspelled her name. 🤦🏻♀️
